Last week our first Young Executives Board convened for its inaugural meeting at the Row New York offices. With attendance by over 50 new members and lots of great ideas discussed, the event was a huge success!

The Young Executives Board has been in the works for over a year and started with the idea that if we bring together a smart and enthusiastic group of young people with common interests, they can broaden their professional and social circles while helping to strengthen Row New York’s programs for youth, both on and off the water.

The full board is scheduled to meet twice a year with committees meeting more frequently. Each committee—Adult Programs and Development, Events and Fundraising, and Volunteer and Pro Bono Projects—will engage ten to twelve Junior Board members. The Events committee in particular will have a fun first six months, helping Row New York pull off several key functions such as our summer Rooftop Ruckus party and the highly anticipated Harlem River Classic Regatta in May.

As we get closer to on-water season, the Adult Programs committee will be busy spreading the word about Row New York’s corporate team building program while also helping to grow both our learn-to-row and competitive/recreational masters teams.

Finally, the Volunteer Coordinating Committee will be focusing on recruiting candidates for our successful Rowing Corps program as well as soliciting in-kind donations for our student-athlete programs.

Henry Cashin, a founding member of YEB explains his desire to be on the board through his past experiences.

“The sport of rowing taught me a lot of things growing up, but most importantly, it taught me how to work hard.  Rowing is a sport of hard work and determination.  I am a firm believer that anyone can be a successful rower with the right attitude. This stubborn, workman-like attitude that all great rowers have translates extremely well to life. Furthermore, the choice to row means surrounding yourself with hard-working people and developing life-long friendships.  Successful rowers turn into successful people, and that is why the work that Row New York does is so important.”

We’re very excited to welcome the Young Executives Board to Row New York, and look forward to working with these wonderful young professionals to achieve great things together!
