On Wednesday, July 8th, eight of our high school rowers attended a college essay writing workshop at Girls Write Now – straight after practice, no less!

During the workshop, the girls were given a chance to reflect on their life story and consider which personal values they wanted to communicate through their writing. Then, the group was presented with two extremely successful essays by former Girls Write Now students and brainstormed together about what made them work so well. Later, the girls were finally able to dive into their own writing process and receive help and feedback from their peers and friends.

“I think it’s good to get my ideas on paper and really start to think about the process,” said Azra, a rising 10th grader. Many of the girls even said they were considering crew as a potential essay topic!

Good luck, ladies, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with.
