SPOILER ALERT: WE QUALIFIED FOR NATIONALS!

Last weekend, our crews packed up and drove almost four hours to compete at the New York State Championships. Both our men’s and women’s Manhattan pairs qualified for Nationals for the first time in Row New York history! Big congratulations to Ricardo, Sam, Sophia, and Amayda!

Ricardo, Sam, Sophia, and Amayda head to Sarasota, Florida on June 11 to compete at the Youth National Championships.

“I am extremely proud of the varsity and novice teams that competed at States for RNY-Manhattan this past weekend. At the beginning of the rowing year (Fall 2016), we set the goal to send two pairs to the Youth National Championship. The team trained hard and delivered on that objective this past weekend. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the collective hard work of every rower and coxswain on this team. You pushed your personal limits and your teammates every day, proving that dedication towards a common goal can absolutely be achieved with hard work.” – Jackie Kleinhans, Manhattan Youth Program Manager

With less than a month to go, help send our athletes to Nationals by donating today. We need fundraise $5,000 by June 11th! Click here to DONATE.

Other Notable Highlights:
— The Manhattan men’s novice and varsity 8+’s came in 4th overall!
— The Manhattan women’s varsity eight came in 3rd in their final!
— The Queens second varsity eight experienced a crab at 750m BUT recovered quickly and finished 3rd in clubs. Great work getting back up after you fall down!

This race was one of twelve qualification races for Nationals. For this reason, crews from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont can attend. Our crews took their experiences from this racing season to the race course and did very well.

“Queens crews got lots of experience, executed great racing, and got to see how large the field in New York State is and how much faster the state is getting. At the trailer, we saw a lot of solidarity, focus, and pure joy! Excited to bring our V8 and 2V8 to Northeast next week.” – Breanne Fitzsimmons, Queens Youth Program Manager
