Our Brooklyn Youth Rowing Program kicked off in 2016, bringing indoor rowing programs to multiple schools at the South Shore Education Campus. In the spring, students experienced the exciting moment of stepping into a boat, and being on the water.

Through the help of our friends at Sebago Canoe Club, the program culminated in the spring with a practice on the Paerdegat Basin.

In the fall, RowAmerica was instrumental in providing boats and equipment for our teams, leading to the launch of our signature 6-day a week high school program.

And the oars!

In October, our Brooklyn team took to the serene waters of the Paerdegat Basin and Jamaica Bay. For the rowers out there, the Paerdegat Basin, a secluded mile and a quarter inlet off Jamaica bay, is ideal water for learning to row due to its high banks and a quiet top half.

This winter, with the arrival of cold winds, we packed up and headed down the road to Pacplex. With weight rooms, swimming pools, classrooms, and an erg room, Pacplex provides an amazing space to host our indoor winter programming.

To kick off the New Year, we’ll be hosting a Brooklyn open house practice on January 24th. We invite all interested high school students to come, meet the team, learn to row, and take advantage of the unique and life-changing opportunity!

Also, check in next week for our first “vlog” by Brooklyn’s very own Barry Wheeler. His weekly vlogs will capture the Row New York experience — the good, the bad, and beautiful. Stay tuned.
