We’re not just about rowing and academics at Row New York. We also aim to provide life skills that our kids can carry with them into college and beyond — which is why our Manhattan middle schoolers attended a “sugar workshop” led by volunteers Natalie Berner and Kate DeAngelis. They taught the group how to assess the amount of sugars in popular foods, and how to read nutrition facts closely. Using teaspoons of real sugar, students measured out the amount of sugar in a serving size of a NutriGrain bar, a bottle of soda, and other foods and drinks before sharing some healthy snacks with our volunteers.

Big thanks to Natalie and Kate for an eye-opening lesson, and for making it fun!
