Summer at Row New York is in full swing and with summer brings a new batch of talented summer interns and volunteers. To highlight all the great work they do (in such a short amount of time!) we will be profiling each volunteer/intern throughout the summer and wish them a fantastic experience with Row New York!

How did you learn about about Row New York?
I interned at the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation last summer. I helped organize their Paralympic Experience Day and ran the hand cycling station. Row New York was present with a paralympic rowing station. I met Jennie (Director of Programs and Operations), we exchanged contact information and I applied for the internship in March.
What do you hope to learn this summer through your work with Row New York?
I hope I get a better understanding of what it takes to run a non-profit organization and how sport programs can have a big impact on a community.
Where do/did you attend college? What was/is your major?
I attend Ithaca College as a Sport Management major with a minor in Health.
Do you row? If yes, what’s your favorite thing about the sport?
I started rowing my sophomore year in college and I absolutely love it. My favorite thing about the sport is that it teaches you to work with the people in your boat so that you all can become an effective unit. Being on my crew team taught me the true definition of teamwork.
What do you like to do for fun?
I’m a big sport junkie (hence my major) so I love viewing and participating in sports. Other than that, I really like trying new restaurants in NYC since there are so many. My sister and I have called our foodie adventures, “Exploring New York” even though we are native New Yorkers. The summer is a great chance for me to binge watch TV because I don’t watch TV back in Ithaca. I also like to write and blog online on a variety of topics in professional sports.
What’s something you learned about Row New York that you didn’t know before interning/volunteering with us?
I was so impressed when I found out the Row New York does over 1 million dollars in fundraising.
