Bailey Griswold was born and raised in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland, and played competitive volleyball for St. Paul’s School for Girls. In the fall of 2008, Bailey moved to Manhattan for her first year at Barnard College, where she was invited to an information meeting for the rowing team and made the fortuitous decision to walk on to the team. In her first year, she was the only walk-on to row in the novice boat, which was the highest placing boat in the program that year at sprints, and as a senior, she was elected as team captain. After graduating in 2012 with a degree in Environmental Biology, Bailey pursued a career in education. Equipped with an MS in teaching from Pace University, and a lot of enthusiasm, Bailey spent the next four years teaching Earth Science in (two of) Brooklyn’s public high schools. She still rows every year at the Head of the Charles with her former Columbia teammates. She is excited to bring together her passion for education and her love of rowing in her role at Row New York.
