Who knew school grades could produce a tasty reward?

On Wednesday June 26th, Row New York hosted a pizza party for high schoolers and middle schoolers who presented their final report cards to coaches. Two pizza parties were held in the Queens and Manhattan Row New York locations. For both locations, more than half of Row New York participants attended the parties. “The point of the pizza party was to get our kids to bring in their report card, it shows academic initiative on their part”, remarked Charlotte Rendon, Row New York’s FAO Schwarz Fellow and recent alum. “And every student loves pizza”, remarked Brittany Aiello, Manhattan Middle School Program Director. There was also a raffle for movie passes for all who attended, only adding to a great reward.

The pizza party marked more than academic initiative, it also marked the official end of the spring rowing season for Row New York and for many, the last day of school classes. For students continuing to row and partake in academic programming in the summer, the pizza party kicked off a mini-break between the two seasons. Academic programming and rowing will resume on July 8th, with morning practices and afternoons of academic preparatory work in both Manhattan and Queens locations. The enthusiasm (and hopefully pizza) from the spring season is sure to follow in the summer months.
