On Tuesday, July 22, our high school students from the Queens and Manhattan programs visited Prophet, a strategic brand and marketing consultancy that has offices in many countries, including one in New York City. Alena Beerman, a member of our Young Executives Board, set up the visit and worked with her colleagues to create a memorable and informative day for our students. They were kind enough to share a presentation explaining their work, and have the kids participate in a few activities to help them get a sense of the strategy behind branding and marketing efforts.

During the presentation, they showcased a few examples of their work, giving insights into how Prophet has increased visibility for brands such as TMobile and Gatorade. Our students were eager to learn more about the process, and the Prophet staff happily answered their many questions.

Then we were able to enjoy a delicious lunch – on the roof!  While there, associates of the firm joined us and chatted with the students about their jobs at Prophet. And after lunch, the real fun began.

The Prophet crew split the students into two groups and had them work on Row New York’s brand identity. They were asked to think of words that they associate with RNY.  Their examples – family, unified, academics, dedication, discipline, support, inspiring, unique, accessible, diverse, life-changing, and friendship, to name just a few – made us proud!

Prophet also had the students think about how to improve two of Row New York’s signature events: Heroes Row the Harlem and the Jingle Mingle. Our students were engaged and involved in the discussion, brainstorming ideas for improved outreach and better execution – from increased involvement for families to photo booths and sponsorship ideas. We’ll definitely take their thoughts into consideration as we plan these events the next time around!

And to cap it all off, Prophet gave goodie bags out to all the students… not a bad way to end the day!  It was a wonderful visit, and the staff at Prophet took a real interest in our students. Thank you again to Alena and all of her colleagues!
