On Thursday, September 16, a tornado came through New York City and went across Meadow Lake–our home course. Our boathouse stayed intact (special thanks to Pat Whetzle on that one!), but our brand new dock, its surrounding fence, and one of our training barges were all blown off the water and ripped into pieces. We had some wonderful volunteers and parents donate their time to help us cut down trees and lug equipment back to our side of the lake, but there is still work to be done.
If anyone would like to donate to our “2010 Tornado Fund” we would be very grateful! We are losing countless staff hours our equipment loss tally has reached about $25,000 thus far.
