• Achievement

Many of our participants have achieved significant academic success since joining the Row New York team. Here are just a few of the remarkable things they have accomplished:

  1. Ninety-nine percent of the graduates from Row New York’s competitive team have gone on to college, with acceptance to prestigious institutions as Harvard, Smith, Rutgers, Fordham, Mount Holyoke, and Northeastern.
  2. Over 50% of our graduates have gone to college on partial or full academic or rowing scholarship.
  3. Three of our graduates are currently in college on full rowing scholarships.
  4. Past Row New Yorkers have made as much as a 40% jump in grade point average after joining the Row New York team and attending academic sessions with us.

Row New York provides group tutoring to our student athletes after school, at both our Queens and Manhattan Academic centers.  Our academic team collaborates with program directors and trained tutors to provide support in areas of homework, math, reading, writing and Regents examinations.  We combine basic skills building with SAT prep for our high schoolers and SHSAT prep for our middle schoolers. Row New York tracks progress and makes sure that each student meets college reading standards.
Our student athletes receive the kind of SAT prep that is not often available to public school students.  Led by an experienced SAT instructor, students attend group sessions throughout the course of six weeks during the summer.  Students spend time reviewing the test and sharpening math and vocabulary skills, and even get pointers on how to deal with text anxiety.
The average ratio of students to college guidance counselors in America’s urban high schools is 740:1. This makes the complicated college application process difficult—sometimes impossible—to navigate, especially for young people who are striving to be the first in their families to attend college. Row New York fills this void, providing careful consideration of each student’s wants and needs in order to prepare them for, and place them in, the good-fit colleges and universities. Row New Yorkers meet regularly with the academic team to create college lists that include reach, match, and safety schools.  Assistance with applications, the college essay, and financial aid forms is also provided. In addition to group and individual college counseling, Row New York organizes several visits to colleges year round.
