Freedom has no boundaries and no limitations. Freedom, and the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that come with it, are the cornerstone of our Freedom Rows program at Row New York.
In partnership with USRowing and the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Row New York is proud to launch our Freedom Rows program for veterans with disabilities. This program will use the discipline of rowing to reinforce the virtues of teamwork, dedication and excellence that bring out the best in everyone.
Rowing is a sport that provides physical and mental benefits to all of its participants at any stage in life. Go to any boathouse and you will see people of all ages, from middle school through senior citizens, grabbing an oar and getting on the water. Rowing is a low-impact sport that offers high reward at all levels. From recreational fun and fitness to competitive training and racing, rowing has a seat for everyone.
Leave your limitations on the dock and experience the thrill of moving a boat across the water using your own power. The sport of rowing is evolving at a rapid rate that is making the sport more accessible to more people every year. Fixed seat rowing allows individuals with no use of their legs or trunk to power boats across the water using their arms. Sliding seats enable single limb amputees, visually impaired, hearing impaired and individuals with a cognitive disability to combine individual effort with the power of teamwork and translate it into the experience of moving a boat towards a common goal.
The Pursuit of Happiness:
Get out of the house, out of the gym and out on the water; A tough morning workout with a team of like-minded, equally hard working vets is just the tonic to get the adrenaline flowing. Leave your worries and cares dockside, focus on the physical and open yourself up to becoming a team of eight.
