On the first Wednesday afternoon of every month, Row New York’s entire middle school team, 50 talented and motivated young women, converge on the Row New York office for workshops in life skills that will help them succeed in school, in rowing—and in all aspects of life.

The workshop on Wednesday, April 6th focused on time management skills, taking the girls through the steps of setting goals (with a focus on rowing and academic goals for student-athletes), making a plan to meet their goals, and organizing their time accordingly.

Goals that the girls set for themselves included: getting into the high school of their choice, maintaining a healthy weight, bringing their GPA up to 90 or above, and joining Row New York’s high school team.

After the girls set their goals, they wrote out a schedule of their daily activities to determine how much of their time they currently spend on things they NEED to do and things they WANT to do, and how much of the time in their day is wasted. Using this information, they create a daily schedule that allows them to complete essential tasks such as homework and chores around the house while also making time for activities that lead towards achievement of their goals.

Good luck one and all in your efforts to achieve your goals—we are behind you all the way!
