Tuesday afternoon saw 37 middle school girls converge at Row New York’s office and training space in Long Island City. The group was a mix of novice middle schoolers and more experienced girls who have already completed a season of training with Row New York’s Director of Middle School Programs Jennie Trayes. For some girls, it was their first official practice, and they were visibly nervous but excited to complete their first 500m pieces, do interval workouts in pairs, and learn some basics of a good rowing stroke. The middle school team will remain indoors during the month of March, and then finally emerge into the sunshine and (we hope) warm spring weather in the first week of April.
