This week we are highlighting two of our hardworking and passionate Academics interns. Davon Holman is a rising senior at Frederick Douglas Academy, a tutor at Harlem Children’s Zone and came to us from Futures and Options. Alexa Nicolaou comes to us from Rutgers University- New Brunswick. Find out what they’ve been up to this summer!

What is your name?
Davon Holman

What did you learn through your internship?
I learned that seeing is believing but not everything you see is true. By that I mean I learned that sometimes you have to see yourself fail to change the outcome next time. Being a tutor this is important to remember with each student.

What do you hope to study in college?
I hope to study journalism in college next year

What is something you learned about Row New York through interning with us?
I learned that rowing can bring kids from all backgrounds together to be a team.

What has your summer been like?
My summertime was filled with work and sports. Playing in lacrosse tournaments on the weekend and working at Row New York on weekdays.

I found Row New York through an internship search site.

What do you hope to learn this summer through your work with Row New York?
I hope to gain practical experience in a classroom setting and learn more about the sport!

Where do you go to college? What is your major? 
I’m a rising junior at Rutgers University- New Brunswick. I’m majoring in history and pursuing a Master’s in Education .

Do you row? 
I do not row but would love to learn.

What’s something you learned about RNY through interning with us?
Hard work through rowing paired with strong academics gives young people the tools they need to become successful!
