The year’s end is a good opportunity to mark progress and celebrate accomplishment for Row New York’s girls. On Tuesday, novice and varsity girls collected at our Long Island City office for a holiday get-together. The middle schoolers assembled at our boathouse for a similar gathering.

At the boathouse, the middle schoolers and coaches Nate and Clara enjoyed holiday festivities after a long fall of rowing and academics. The girls fashioned holiday wreathes, drank cider and hot chocolate, decorated cookies, and ate tasty oranges. The camaraderie and holiday spirit left everyone feeling warm.
Back at the office, Coach Mike Eichler used the presence of Row New York alumnae to remind the girls of all they can accomplish in the future. Seeing girls who were in your position eight years ago, Mike said, shows the benefits of hard work and dedication. The girls were excited and pleased to interact with these role models.

After Mike’s pep talk and lively conversation among the teammates themselves over holiday treats, the novice girls were given their Row New York shirts, signifying their further adoption into the Row New York family. These two events brought closure to 2011 at Row New York and motivated everyone for an even better 2012.
