Deloitte, like many other companies, is one that strongly encourages its employees to give back to the community in which it operates and provides service. Deloitte Impact Day is scheduled each year in June as an opportunity for all of the firm’s employees to take a day off from the office and volunteer for a variety of charitable organizations in the areas in which they work. This year being my first Impact Day, I thought what better way to spend it than with Row New York?

I nominated and led an Impact Day project for Row New York (which luckily was approved!) and gathered a team of thirty Deloitte employees to help the RNY staff with a number of tasks at the Peter J. Sharp Boathouse. We worked together in order to clean and re-organize the boat bay, paint the bathrooms, clean and service ergs, and sand oars- chores that typically fall by the wayside when all of the youth, adult, and para-rowing programs are in full swing. The staff was thrilled that we were able to help out and the volunteer group was excited to meet new faces from Deloitte, give back to RNY, and learn about a new organization that benefits the community in which they work.

Working together with my coworkers and being able to give back to an organization I am personally invested in was a very rewarding experience. I hope to be able to bring a new team of volunteers from Deloitte next year for another Impact Day project and continue to give back to RNY. Not only does RNY benefit from the volunteers and supplies for this specific project, but I hope this garners further recognition for its mission and spreads the word to other facets of the New York City community.
