  • Because some of the boat categories may be confusing to parents, we have provided a description of the rowing categories you might encounter at Row New York as well as the symbol used for them:
  • Single Sculls
    VERNACULAR: Single
    SYMBOL: 1x
    DESCRIPTION: One rower, two oars per rower, no coxswain

    Double Sculls
    VERNACULAR: Double
    SYMBOL: 2x
    DESCRIPTION: Two rowers, two oars per rower, no coxswain

    Quadruple Sculls
    VERNACULAR: Quad
    SYMBOL: 4x
    DESCRIPTION: Four rowers, two oars per rower, no coxswain

    Pair without coxswain
    VERNACULAR: Pair
    SYMBOL: 2-
    DESCRIPTION: Two rowers, one oar per rower, no coxswain

    Four without coxswain
    VERNACULAR: Coxless Four
    SYMBOL: 4-
    DESCRIPTION: Four rowers, one oar per rower, no coxswain

    Four with coxswain
