Overcoat to casualty, this beloved river, how many waterfowl roost its banks?

Varsity Program Assistant Sarah Sala’s poem “Harlem River Anthem” has been awarded an honorable mention in the Winning Writers 2012 Sports Poetry & Prose Contest. Winning Writers is a leading center for information on poetry and writing contests. Sarah’s poem was selected from over 280 entries from around the world by a judging panel of writers.

This accolade is far from Sarah’s first. Her previous honors include an Academy of American Poets Prize, the Marjorie Rapport Award for poetry, an Avery Hopwood Award for nonfiction, and a Roy W. Cowden Memorial Fellowship. A short selection of her poetry was chosen for publication in the Small Anchor Press Dory Reader Chapbook Series Fall 2011. Sarah earned her MFA in poetry from New York University.
