The Scholastic Rowing League

What is the Scholastic Rowing League?
The Scholastic Rowing League provides rowing programs to various independent schools throughout New York City. In turn, the Scholastic Rowing League supports our free rowing and academic programming for underserved communities. Students who may have never had a chance to row, both in public and private schools, now have the opportunity to do so. A win-win for all!

How We Build a Program
By introducing students to the prestigious sport of rowing, schools partner with Row New York to build a pilot indoor and on-water rowing program. Our programs are highly customizable, allowing us to work with each partner school, in a way to fit specific timetables and budgets. For schools who wish to competitively race, there are opportunities to attend the New York State Championships, our annual Scholastic Rowing League Championship regatta on the Harlem River, and other regattas.

Why Rowing?
At Row New York, we aim to build strength, confidence, and a strong work ethic on and off the water. Kids learn that working together is critical to success. There is no “A-Rod” to salvage a team’s record, instead, rowing relies on a team working together to succeed. While our goal is to teach a sport that encourages teamwork as well as build confidence and strength, we bring our “A” game. Our teams have medaled the past 8 years in regional regattas. This success builds confidence and a sense of pride that we find transfer into the academics as well as life in general.

The Indoor Rowing Option
Some schools may not be ready to take to the water, or prefer to run programs on site. That’s why we offer indoor rowing – a sport of its own! Whether on the water or off, rowing is unparalleled in improving aerobic fitness and core strength, promoting teamwork and discipline, and building confidence. Indoor rowing allows for a full-body individualized workout, during which students have the opportunity to receive instant feedback in a team environment. It is safe, requires little space, and makes college-bound athletes stand out!

Our Mission
Row New York is a NYC-based, non-profit serving under-resourced communities. We teach a unique program, combining competitive rowing with academics and college prep, to move our kids through high school as well as college. We have found the sport of rowing builds the discipline, endurance, and team-building skills required to not only succeed academically but in life. The Scholastic Rowing League “rows it forward” by financially supporting our mission-based programs.
