Many of our participants have achieved significant academic success since joining the Row New York team. Here are just a few of the remarkable things they have accomplished:

  • All graduates from Row New York’s competitive team have gone on to college, with acceptance to prestigious institutions as Harvard, Smith, Rutgers, Fordham, Mount Holyoke, and Northeastern.
  • Over 50% of our graduates have gone to college on partial or full academic or rowing scholarship.
  • Three of our graduates are currently in college on full rowing scholarships.
  • Past Row New Yorkers have made as much as a 40% jump in grade point average after joining the Row New York team and attending academic sessions with us.

JARELINE’S SUCCESS

Jareline
  • Jareline Guerrero joined Row New York in fall 2008 with an eye on someday earning a college scholarship. In her very first race at the extremely competitive Mercer Lake Sprints in spring 2009, her novice boat won a gold medal. Jareline followed that success with numerous medals at the varsity level while also keeping her grades strong and maintaining her focus on her college plans.
  • Jareline graduated high school in June 2011, and she is now attending Barnard College on a full scholarship. A first generation American with a family background in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Jareline is the first in her family to attend college. She is still in close contact with the Row New York staff and sometimes travels to the Meadow Lake Boathouse for weekend rows with her old crewmates.
